Many thanks in advance

aires in france its ok.
mind in spain there is lots of taps fonts etc . we spend 6 months there sometimes in winter . buying water is not omething we do.
always have a taste if it tastes ok then it is .
sometimes it pays to let the taps run a bit so you get water a bit fresher .
even in morocco never buy water .
might buy 5 litres as an emergency stand buy but so far end up not using it .
usually its marked potable .

We have a daughter living in Spain (la linea) and she has her water straight from the tap. She's been ok for 16 years.

Water always comes from a tap in civilised countries except in parts of the third world were it may come from a pump in the ground and not be filtered or cleaned .and they do not have a second pipe running with diffferent water to the aires . The problem is that the delivery of fresh water varies from place to place and may have more or less chlorine in it also as the water in spain may sometimes be drawn from a deposite deep down it may have a salty taste to it as the sea water seeps in but is is filtered and clean. This can and will effect your cuppa by taste and you will notice it in the taste of the coffee in the coffee shops in some towns . We were just in spain and there was no problem with the water just a slight tint of chlorine but it will not hurt you but again for our cuppa we did buy bottled water. Just check the side of the bottle for the calcium content as this will effect the taste of your tea and also fur up your kettle . look for one with a calcium content under 30mg per liter it is always displayed also in the uk it is on the bottles listed as residue content . Water is water alover our planet but in diffent qualities and residues and the cleanest we have tasted was in Egypt in Alexandria which was a surprise but they had good filtration , this was a few years back but can not vouch forthat now . As chrisjones18 writes his daughter has tap water for 16 years in spain and is still there.

Thanks guys just something I haven't thought of!
Well here we go off to Dover! :thumb:

Cheers Mike

When I was in the Alpujarras water came to our property from the mountains and then to a fuenta just down the road. Countless people came to fill containers from there as the water is so pure. All the villages have fuenta with portable(drinkable) water. IIRC Valor even has a fizzy one!
One of the things I first noticed when I returned to this part of the UK was the taste of the water. Will be so glad to get back. Think I paid 36 euros a year, strange thing was that the local policeman came to the campo to read the meter!

yes lanjaron is famous for its water . its bottled and sold all over spain etc . never bought any but filled alot outside the bottle plant.
friends of mine lived up there water came through at certain times of the day in the channels .
alpujarras again is famous for its water ways . mind you do have to walk the ways and clear them out as well.
but nearly every house has a depository in their garden .
we always try to find spring water. shame alot have been bulldozed over .
mind even worse is the slow decline in hot springs . lots have been lost over the years .
at one time we travelled from france all along through spain just stopping at hot springs . there was lots of them .

You have to pay the commitee for the acecia water that is used to irrigate. Cost me 90 euros per year for 20 minutes every 2 weeks. Mind you this filled my balsa. It is a shame they are pipeing a lot of these acecias, as the vegitation growing on the edge helps stabalise the banks and helps fauna and flora, suppose its just financies. What happens when there is a blockage? This is seperate from the drinking water that comes out of the fountains. This is tested regulaly. Never bought Lanjaron water has they had bad press a few years ago. The hot springs sound good. Always got me that the village swimming pools only open for the summer school holidays!

i just dont really buy water.
have been known to pay a few dirham to the water tankers bringing water to the beach in maroc . but normally fill up when on a shopping trip or when nosing around .
in spain etc its all over the place . just fill up when ever you can .
if out on the m,bikes look for the next means of supply .
carry about three weeks water if in stingy mode.
ie. wash in the sea every morning at 9 o,clock saves having a shower.
mind not many of the others seem so keen . hee hee .

Like it! Used to watch tourists getting off a coach and going into the shop to buy bottles of water, passing the fountain in the square on the way! Mind I did have to buy 2x5 litre bottles to start with so then I could go to the bodegas to fill up with wine!

use gaseosa bottles for that .
mind i find the bodegas are getting expensive .
conde noble in lidl.s suits me.
mind a drop of gaseosa in any wine makes it pleasant .

Fanta limon, red wine and a drop of martini rosso! Valor public swimming pool 1.5 euros and free tapas.
Used to go to Lidl in Guadix for the weekly shop, over Puerta de la Ragua. Ann hated that road, especially when we had a trailer load of tiles on the back of the gaylander with a dodgy clutch in winter! Happy days.
The bodegas at Berja was allways good. 1.30e a ltr Contraviesa rossada.
Need to get back!
