Time in tenerife

I have been locked down in Tenerife in my motorhome since Jan 14.

So my 6 month is up July.
Does any one know, or better , have experience of what could happen if I over stay.

I believe the 3 month lock down time will not count, but would just like some opinions.

dont reallyknow but would think catch the ferry back to spain mainland and just head up either to try and get a ferry from spain or drive up to the tunnel in france .
think the world is really in confusion regarding it all.
could be that insurance etc might be not right but i dare say you can get away with it.

Thanks. I'm quite happy staying here or in Spain... Just don't want customs trying to take my van off me.. that's my biggest issue. I'm sure In 2 months max, the country will be crawling with British vans again, and our 6 month limit will get blended into one.

( Well, until brexit messes us all up... )

many stay for years just moving around .
mind thats if you are uk passported . etc.
if not eu passport might cause a problem.
but come january it should be different.
i know lots used to be imprisoned when leaving morocco if they went over the 90 days .
tenerife is still classed as spain i thought, so take it you will be ok.
brexit wont mess anything up. just changes things a little.
might even be better if the ferry from falmouth to morocco starts up , it has been talked about here and in morocco. make driving down in africa easier hopefully. africa is an adventure the eu as lost.

At this present time, as we are still within the Transition Period, I do not think there will be too many issues, I think the lockdown will have impacted on many who are still in Europe as the internal borders have been closed, but that will be changing very soon as most of Europe looks like they are re-opening their borders later this month. At that point you, and many others, will not have any reasonable excuse for overstaying so will probably be expected to make your way back to the UK. However, as it stands, once back in the UK you will have to quarantine and self-isolate for 14 days and provide an address so that they can check that you are where you say you are or be subject to a fine of £1,000  Campsites are still closed and waiting for Government to announce that they can open, anticipated to be on 4th July, so if you are planning on heading back you will need to take this into consideration, although the Government are under pressure to Drop this quarantine rule, so we will have to see what happens.

You appear to be a knowledgeable man on this full timing.

Have u ever heard of any customs fines from the canary's... I have and I'm sure u have also spent over 6 months in Europe with out a bother.

I'm just concerned with Tenerife, as it would totally screw Me up if hey stopped move leaving trying to impose a fine or tax on the vehicle.

Once in Spain, I'm sure it will be easy to ride the time when Europe will be full of Brits again and return with them as if I've only been away for a few weeks..

This is our last chance of freedom movement before brexit truely ties us down

A bit here about asking for a long-stay visa but obviously that could be a gamble:

Stuck in the EU Due to Coronavirus and Visa-Free Stay Is About to Expire
If you are from a country that does not require a Schengen visa, the same principle due to force majeure will apply to you too. Generally, you are allowed to stay in a Schengen country without a visa for up to 90 days. If you have already exhausted these days, you can also approach the competent authorities of the Member State where you are located are apply for a long-stay visa to cover your prolonged stay until you are able to depart the Member State and return home.

Also there's a multi-lingual letter from the British Embassy in Madrid re covid, asking for people to be allowed to continue on their journey home. It could be worth a try if stopped by authorities

Thank you for that. Very interesting. I have downloaded that attached letter.

Good to have.
Many thanks

I don't really want to go home. Neither do I ,.or will I intentionally break the law.

ideally would like permission to stay here until all this has calmed down or restrictions have slackened.

I don't fancy getting the ferry onto spain and then being forced home.

The British Embassy across here are useless and just keep making references to the internet sites with out making recommendations are helping.

I would love to be able to get authorisation for an extention, but again, it's who I would need to apply too

Spain are excluding British/ travellers from UK?? into spain------ I realiise you are on a Spanish island but they MAY refuse you entry into mainland Spain????------- I would certainly check that out before boarding a ferry!!
I don't know what your options are---- do they run a ferry to Portugal now I have no idea!!!!
Maybe the travel restrictions are only by air from UK??? I don't know!!----- I would do some more research!!!!
If I could remember where I saw that info I would post it---------- but can't remember where it was!!!!! maybe BBC news maybe Portuguese news????
I really wouldn't expect you to run into problems overstaying but who knows????!!!!!! is your insurance ok for that time???-------- good luck!!! We will be watching this space to see what happens!!!!!!

There are more knowledgable and experienced full timers than me. But as has been said already, Tenerife is Spain, think of it similar to the Isle of Wight to the UK, so you are already in Spain. If you are happy to stay where you are, go to the local Police Station and sign on the list of Foreign Visitors, as we are still subject to EU Laws we are also protected by them until the end of the Transition date 31 Dec 2020. So, as long as you have signed the register you should be okay to stay in Spain for a Further period of 90 days, but no more than a total period of 180 days. Remember too, unless the Transition Period is extended, which is looking extremely unlikely, the 90 day period will commence, for Brits already in Schengen Countries, on 1st January, meaning you need to be out no later than 31st March. Remember, if you havn’t already got one, after 31st December you may also need an ‘International Driving Licence’

I think alot of motorhomers after 31 march will either drive to turkey or Morocco for their next 90 days.

Then return to Europe

might be even better than that if they the talked about ferry from falmouth to morocco does happen.
dare say the ferry to the canary isles etc will start again from morocco.
mind it will also make it easier for more to venture further into africa and have lots of fun.
cuts the eu right out then . best we dont spend our money in the eu or buy eu products once we leave.

What the UK Government does or doesn’t do in respect of trade with the EU after 31st December doesn’t really matter for those that have retired, or elected to opt for the ‘Unconventional’ lifestyle. We will still be able to travel, buy fuel, lpg, food etc. I have long been of the opinion that people just do whatever they want to do anyway and that is the path that I shall be taking from now on. One life, just live it and do not worry about what is beyond your control and influence.
