Grey water disposal

Hi guys,

We have had one night away in our new van on a fully serviced pitch. Now we are thinking of going away next weekend Fri/Sat night but staying on a site, Sat only and wild camp Fri night, to replenish/dispose of water etc.....if there is no grey water disposal where do we get rid of it???? Quite a few sites I've looked at especially in Suffolk do not have grey water disposal due to septic tanks.

A camp site is a place where you will find people like graham norton alan dont you know anything:rolleyes:

As has been said mike a hedge is fine, normally i wait until nobody is around and then i empty into a bucket and then toss into the bushes. It does no harm and i dont want folk to think i am not respecting the enviroment or are emptying black waste which is why i dont want anyone about at the time.Just black waste in the correct place and you will be fine. Also urine is fine to tip in the bushes too and saves emptying your cassette every 5 minuites

When you are wildcamping, don't store it! I've been on the same spot for two months now and let it run out as I use it, without any smells or 'puddle' problems. Soapy water only becomes smelly when stored - it's never smelly right after you've used it.

mind though its sometimes better to let it fill then it washes out all ther bits as well . i like filling it then looking for that up hill spot to stop admire the view and it flows out a treat.
i deliberately had the drain on the right hand side rear so i could empty into drains abroad . i do tend to use it more abroad than here.
thats why the side entry door is on the right .
back to the sea sun on the door side . fridge on the shady side .
all thought out .

How do you manage that with a cassette??.............as when we start long terming I might have to learn the art of teaching my doo doo's to swim like salmon......ie up stream:rofl::rofl:

Emptying cassettes we need to use a little common sense. DON'T just tip it into a drain, or stream or any other water flow off. However, when wildcamping there is always somewhere away from such features where you can empty it. Under a bush, tree etc - in long grass - but AWAY from anywhere it may contaminate. We don't worry about horse, goat, sheep, cow, dog, bird sh1t now do we? We have become over sensitised to it in my humble opinion.

in case you didnt know ultra violet is one of the great cleansers of water .
water leaving sewage plants is usually run under uv lights as it leaves the works . if you can find a nice quiet steep slope facing the sun tip there in a couple of days it will be gone . bugs eat it . and the sun helps .
mind lots and lots in the same place isnt good . ideal for those way out mountain runs or gorges .

no i like them . at least they have a good gvw.
i made consideration to where the fridge etc works best . also fresh water waste watertanks .
i,m not keen on black tanks prefer cassette well actually prefer the older type non fixed porta potty.
but like black tanks for fresh water as black stops algie growth.
unfortunately many of the companies do make a mistake . fridge on door side in the sun . or a door covers the vents .
it does take a bit of thought . i,m always up for ideas if you have any please inform us . new ideas are always worth looking at .
actually i think i prefer a 7.5 ton chassis if i had to get a different truck.

You're dead right about positioning of things such as the fridge... although insulation is key even our van has the fridge on the door side which doesn't make sense as you say.
As mentioned on a previous thread, I too prefer the cassette now although initially thought I would want a tank for black (no sense in carrying tonnes of toilet waste around).

In the USA they have seperate drain systems for run off water (rain / street water) and for waste (toilets etc) but in most of Europe my understanding is that the two systems combine prior to processing.

Not that I would advise / condone emptying your potty into a street grid however, certainly in the UK (and a large portion of Europe), as far as I am aware, it all goes off for processing in the same place anyhow; prior to making it's way back to our drinking tap!:confused:

Streams and river though... certainly a bad idea for all the bathers out there!

i prefer the porta potty you can easily put it in a tent or anywhere you need a loo. and they cost far less . and much less trouble . the more i look at forums the more i know i,m correct .
takes a lot of time listening and i did work with campers for years .
my mate as sold trucks all his life . we shared the garage big yard etc . for years i kept seeing ideal vehicles .
we sold vw campers but trucks are half the money second hand yet you get more metal for your money.http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2012-12-Fuso-Canter-7c15-Duonic-Curtainsider-ex-Demo-/251191192682?pt=UK_Co
or this ...http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-UNREGISTERED-NEW-MODEL-Mitsubishi-Fuso-Canter-TF-Chassis-Cabs-Available-/251012694869?pt=UK_C

the first could have been a solid box .similar value . but look at that 3,500kg as a tow unit . ideal .compare that to vans or van chassis cabs . its cheap.

no they rarely mix . some do go through a seperate part of the plants but normally storm water is seperate to sewage .
in spain etc if you tip into a storm drain it could be months before any real water is running through it .
