Your Doctor should give you 3 months and you can buy most prescription drugs in Spain and Portugal by producing the packaging or a repeat prescription. If you know anyone in say Spain now give them a list of the drugs and ask them to go and see if they can be bought, we have never had a problem.

Good luck
Dave

many regularly call in and get their prescriptions a bit earlier each month etc and build a store . it might be your doc could double the so called dose nod nod that would give 6 months supply but look like 3 months .
but anyway take your prescription renewal with you . as been said they will let you have almost what ever over the counter . but you will have to pay.

Hi thats no problem just take your european hic card with you , as dave quotes above you can by the tablets in spain just take the packet with you in germany or france just popinto a doctor who will write them out .I have a heart problem 4 stents and the back closed can not do anything not had any problems if you get a chest pain and it does not go after 10 mins rest just dial 112 for an ambulancethey will take you in it has happened to me a few times in spain and here. Safe travels.

Ah thanks all for the replys I will try the nod nod idea and try get 6 months worth. Mind you the consultant said i have to go for a follow up appointment, in 3 months time, do i really need to go for this appointment? I need to get away before the cold sets in.
Does it cost much to buy tablets over there? as i dont have any income so funds are very sparse.

i used to buy some there they were about the same costs as a prescription in uk.
morocco was cheaper.
cant advise on the medical appointment , i have my appointments for my throat arranged so i see the specialist just before i leave and within a week of coming back.
even my medical notes have a reminder on them for the docs or secretaries to note .

yes you need to go to the appointment just to see that all is ok and you may need a change of tablets if they do not suit you take it you are on clopidorol for a year, asprin for life a statin and a beta blocker .

you may be able to phone and get an earlier appointment if you are quick. then push your luck and get the next one in 5-6 months . worth a try. i find out hospitals are very good at helping . the appointment staff are great.

Ah no i won't beable to stand the cold in the garage if i stay here another 2 or 3 months, it was bad enough coming home from the hospital yesterday and sleeping in there last night, not sure what to do.

The tablets im on are Clopidogrel, Atorvastatin, Bisoprolol, Ramipril, Amlodipine, and, Aspirin. I don't know what they all are but I now rattle when a walk lol

i wouldnt think its a good idea to take off .
think i might have to delay things .
i know i risk my throat not getting bad and did push my luck a few years ago, but its your choice .
is your local doctor ok. mine is , i can talk with him and discuss what i should be looking for etc .
could say i,m lucky all the doctors go out their way to assist me .
can you ask your doctor about it .

The first is to stop a blood clot for one year, the second is for your cholestoral to lower it, the third is ablood pressure lowerer, the fourth is a for take the water away next I dont know the fith is just a blood thinner to prevent clots. I am still on them except the first which was stopped aftera year . Have not not got an ehu to connect to you should be as warm as toast or find a lady friend to cook and cuddle up to ?

Not sure what my doctor is like as i registered with them 5 years ago but never went to see any one even while having this horrible angina for a year i just kept it to myself and tried to manage it, untill the excruciating pain i got was so bad and would not stop. I went 2 months ago to see a doctor about it but not seen anyone since, just been having hospital appointments, I will ring up docs monday and see what they say. I hate taking tablets i mean do they realy work? And what about side affects ill probably find out soon enough, it just shows keeping yourself fit and watching what you eat don't really work it still gets you in the end.

By the way thanks all for your input its good to know and it sounds like you all are experienced in it all one way or another.

They do work but if you still have angina you should see a doc. If you are in spain just call 112 and an ambulance will come and sort you out. I collapsed and the local police came just had my shredies on as I was trying to get to a hospital the ambulance came and I had better treatment than in uk took them 4 hhours last year to get to me.

but be warned it could be a private ambulance and take you to a private hospital , then you will be paying private prices .
only use state ambulances and state hospitals . oh, and health centers .
your ehic doesnt cover private work.

I'm a stubborn old git when comes to taking tablets probably why im in this state but who knows, but for my children who have nagged me im going to take them for 1 year and that's it. So here is my next question if i pay up front for 1 year so its cheaper (someone told me you can do this ) does it count for abroad or only in uk? I think i know the answer is no? I tell you its like a force trying to stop me traveling lol and yes i will have to be carefull about the private medical help that will be the sort of thing that will happen to me.

uk prescriptions abroad you will have to pay for .
mind many things are sold over the counter over there without prescriptions .
many find the equivalent is cheaper so buy stocks abroad .
a favourite was buying antibiotics in maroc . if you knew what suited you and was careful not to be silly handy to have some if traveling over a long time .

If you pay up front it is only valid in the uk . There is no problem abroad as I do not have any problemin spain or germany just used the hic card in spain at the social center in germany it is the aok and just see a doc, I have german insurance for health was told to keepit on. If you still have angina you need a nitro spray which will take the pain away. Just dont panic if you fall by the road someone will pick you up. I travel and have got to spain just to be carted away for a week just came out of hospital in germany the doc said you still living with the heart problem to which I said yes just keep going till your number is pulled out of the hat its a one way journey with no retries.
