First week full-timimg

Well, it's been a week since we started.
Rained all week, sounds nice on the roof, gently rocks us to sleep.
Although we are parked up on a site, there are only 2 others here, however, they are in statics, so don't really count do they.
The one thing that has surprised us is how warm we are, we have to open the windows at night sometimes.
We are a liitle bit unlevel and intend to sort that this weekend, other than that, it is great, we love it....can't wait to see France and beyond.

Hi Rob, glad you are enjoying your selves full timing.
Nic and I are seriously thinking about full timing next year
but we will still have to work, and are still trying to work out a viable routine.

At the moment we are in rented accomadation which is ending May next year.
So are looking for life style change.

I'm assuming you both still work (or maybe not?) We also are both 44 and it gives encouragement to see that people of the same age are doing it now. We are not far from you this weekend, 2miles outside knarsborough on a site called moorcock farm.

Look forward to your reply.

Hi Mike & Nic
We will be working along the way, we are selling our business but will hopefully find work as & when.
What line of work do you do?
Can you adopt it to suit fulltiming?

I am an engineer laser profile cutting so would need to stay relatively close to work. Nic works for local authority supporting families. We have done some groundwork and considering using CL,s. Have a house that we rent out, investment for older years but at happiest when in our van. Did it take you long to reach a decision to full time.

We have been thinking about it for about 18 months.
We ordered the 'Van a couple of weeks ago, had some work done to it and picked it up last Saturday, we would also use CL's but really can't wait to see France and use the Aires there, then probably Germany, Austria and Switzerland. No plan or agenda, we simply want to set off and see where we end up.

What made you think about a lifestyle change. Is this your first van or has it been a gradual process

Hopefully off to France in December.
The change came about after some close friends got cancer, one died, another had a heartattack and died, all of them were under 50!!!!
The sooner people understand your tag line....the better...

This isn't a rehearsal, you won't get to do it again
so live life to the full, enjoy the things you do

My wife lost 2 of her brothers in the same week with a heart condition which she was later diagnosed with. She has since been fitted with an artificial valve. It certainly made me realise where my priorities lie.

Hi Guys, and welcome. Just to add my 'sixpennyworth' to the thread - I started fulltiming in May but due to medical problemo's just minced around Devon and Cornwall until my kidney specialist gave me a six month 'window'. I'm now in Greece and plan to drive through the Baltic states on my way to Morocco for winter. There's a big world out there - let's go see it!!!!:D

excellent, loved Greece so much culture, mountains, scenery, beaches and sea. Good luck driving through the baltic states we did a motorbike tour a few years back.
Morocco is great for the winter too, different though, but still a lot to offer too.

hi rob
we sold the busness in november last year , rented out the house in may this year ,been overlanding from cape town to zambia, onw we are back and in the "home"for the next how ever long , we are looking to be in france for the end of this month ,i want to be over the pirannese befor the snow ,in to spain and on, and will be on a site just above luz for xmas ,then who knows .
as all will say just do it , im a jig and tooll maker ,but have been suffering wi oa in my hands ,wrist and knees ,my boss turnd arround and sacked me so now we live on my insurance money , what we have learnt in the last tow years is you dont need a lot to suvive on . we have a mail box for the post ,our mobiles and a three /vodafone dongel for the net ,if you are like us we only use the camp site to fill up and empty the tanks ,so 1 in 4nights on site, use your friends and family for the odd week end , the biggest expence that you will have is fule and food , we have sola pannel and two 110 batterys and this works for us ,all the lights are led ,dont rely on the sat nav , have a trukkers map with you , pay the extra and get a snooper 6000, as for the tv if so inclined ,any 19" led tv with an exturnal trans former will do ,we got one for £100 form macro.
mikkiddewhy wast rent get the van now .
all the best tom & karen
